Alastair Swinnerton commented on a similarity between The Dreamer, The Convalescent and the newly identified Manx Maid, all painted around the same time. The similarity of features between them is indeed apparent, and very possibly the same model. (I did wonder whether this was Isabel, who was 42 at the time, but the face looks a little to young and the nose isn’t quite right – Isabel’s bridge was narrower and bulbous, as shown in Francis Dodd’s portraits of her in her later years. What a shame no photo is known to exist.)
