This is a work is a copy of a painting by Pietro Vannucci (known as ‘Perugino’, 1446-1523). The fresco copied was originally in the portico of the church of Saint Francis di Monteripido, Perugia (a city in central Italy, 80 miles/130 km north of Rome), painted c. 1504. The portico was demolished in 1863, but the fresco was preserved and is now housed in the Galleria Nazionale dell’Umbria, Perugia, where it is called Adorazione dei Pastori (Adoration of the Shepherds).
