Have been kindly sent images of a previously unrecorded ‘Suviaco from Scholastica’ work by Annie. The painting was bought directly from Annie by the great-grandfather of the current owner.

It has an obvious similarity to the ‘Suviaco from Scolastica‘ held by Manchester Art Gallery which is undated, but this has the date “1906” clearly inscribed. For purposes of identification on this web site, I’ll name them “Suviaco from Scholastica (Manchester Art Gallery)” and “Suviaco from Scholastica (private collection)“.

The large building lower-left-centre (not apparent in the Manchester work) is the Basilica of Sant’Andrea, while the prominent building at the head of the town, below the summit of the mountain, is the Rocca Abbaziale abbey. The mountain in the background is Monte Gennaro (AKA Monte Zappi), also depicted in Annie’s Rain Clouds, Monte Gennaro and The Sabine Mountains from Tusculum. What appears to be a misty area left of centre in the Manchester work is simply a small lowland plain south-west of the town.

The Manchester (broader canvas) and private collection works compared. The exposed canvas of the new work is 82 x 71 cm, that of Manchester being 115 x 81 cm.
