Auction sales page text:

19th century O/C portrait of girl with muff, button shoes, & landscape background, attributed to Annie Louisa Swynnerton (1844-1933) according to label on frame, original stretcher, sight is 45″T x 34″W, frame is 4.5″W, Annie Swynnerton was a British painter best known for her portrait & symbolist works. She studied at Manchester School of Art and the Academie Julian, before basing herself in Rome with her husband, the monumental sculptor Joseph Swynnerton. She was the first elected woman member at the Royal Academy of Arts in 1922. Her main public collection of works are in Manchester Art Gallery, but individual works are held in a few other English cities, as well as in Glasgow, Dublin, Paris, and 2 are in Melbourne, Australia and now Brookston, Indiana!! Condition No holes or tears, wear consistent with age and use.

Comment by alastairswinnerton: I wonder if it’s anything to do with one of Annie’s brothers-in-law, either Mark, who emigrated to Marysville Washington, or Robert, who went to Los Angeles. I’m putting it in the current Saga, to see if any of our American family have any ideas.
