ANNE MARJORIE ROBINSON (1858-1924).

Thanks to information from someone enquiring about the identity of a work they possess, a portrait of an old soldier (which turned out not to be by Annie L  Swynnerton), I have become aware of another Annie Robinson, in addition to the Annie I. L. M. Robinson identified in 2021 (thanks to Alastair). This second person is Anne Marjorie Robinson (1858-1924), a Belfast artist.

Self-portrait.

Intriguingly, Annie – she sometimes used the diminutive form – M. Robinson employed gold leaf at times …

A bit of a leap, but could she be the author of Portrait of a boy surrounded by gold? My thought is that someone may have accidentally conflated this ‘Annie M. Robinson’ with ‘Annie L. Swynnerton (née Robinson)’, as happened with the Black Head lighthouse painting and the work mentioned above. Annie M. Robinson’s general style does not immediately suggest Portrait of a boy, but with only a handful of her pieces known, a possibility, but much firmer evidence required!

A selection of her works can be seen on  the Ulster Museum web site (type ‘Anne Marjorie Robinson’ in the search box), and also at ArtUK.
