HEAD OF A YOUNG MAN (drawing).

Pencil on paper … This is a rare drawing from the 1870s, produced when Swynnerton was a student at Manchester School of Art. It illustrates her early skill in figure study. The subject may be a life model or someone Swynnerton knew. It could be her future husband, Joseph Swynnerton, which might explain the work’s survival.” (Notice by drawing at Painting Light and Hope exhibition, Manchester Art Gallery, 23 Feb 2018 – 6 Jan 2019.)
